Position for EACC chairman up for grabs

07 September 2016, 20:34

Nairobi – The position for chairman of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is now up for grabs.

According to the Daily Nation the Public Service Commission put the position up on Wednesday after Philip Kinisi was forced to step  down barely a year in the position.

He stepped down due to allegations linking his family to having an upper hand with business dealings with the National Youth Service (NYS).

However the concern is that some applicants have been flagged due to being a convicted felons or having abused power in their previous positions.

Past head of EACC have always had an uncomfortable term that did not play out because they themselves were forced to leave under controversial circumstances.

Kinisu stepped down in August 2016 after a petition ruled against him stating they had sufficient evidence to remove him from office.

The Standard Media the National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee found that Kinisu had failed to disclose his interest in a company that did business with the scandal-ridden National Youth Service (NYS).
