Nairobi - Approximately 9.2 million Kenyans of voting age have not yet registered to vote in the 2017 general election.
According to National Registration Bureau, only 14.4 million Kenyans have enlisted as voters ahead of the next year’s polls despite the country having 23.6 million eligible voters.
The bureau, which is planning to issue over 2 million IDs, said majority of Kenyans have not enlisted as voters due to lack of information.

The Joint IEBC reforms committee chaired by James Orengo and Kiraitu Murungi now wants the Bureau to name constituencies with high number of voter apathy.
According to The Star, lawmakers also want a law passed to institute legal proceedings against ID holders who do not register as voters.
IEBC conducted the last voter registration drive between February 15 and March 15 but did not hit its target mainly due to financial constraints, Standard reports.
