PHOTO: NTSA deregisters Ongata Line Sacco following deadly Lang'ata Road accident

26 September 2016, 19:01

Nairobi - The National Transport Safety Authority NTSA has deregistered the Ongata Line Company after Sunday's accident that killed 4 people on Langata road in Nairobi.

The NTSA said Monday that it was forced to take the decision following repeated offences by vehicles registered under the sacco in recent times.

It termed the Sunday incident as regrettable and warned members of the public from using matatus registered under the sacco or face the law.

" We advise members of the public to avoid boarding these vehicles as they shall be impounded if found operating contrary to the authority's directives, " the statement from NTSA said in part.

Four people died on Sunday while six others were injured after the matatu overturned. Nairobi County police commander Japheth Koome told The Star that the matatu driver was speeding and lost control of the vehicle.

He said that the number of people in the vehicle at the time of the accident was yet to be established.

The Daily Nation said that the Nairobi Traffic Commandant Leonard Katana confirmed that four suffered serious injuries while two others minor in the 1 PM accident.

Katana said that the matatu was headed to the city centre when the driver lost control, veering off the road.
