Njenga Karume's grandson charged with girlfriend's murder

Nairobi - Former MP and minister Njenga Karume's grandson has been accused of killing his girlfriend.
Kiambu police have been granted 10 days to complete investigations
into allegations that Karume's grandson murdered his fiancée.
Kennedy Muthugia was arrested last Thursday night after Victoria
Wairimu was reported dead after falling from the fourth floor of their
home in Kiambu town, The Star reported.
Police constable Kiongo Karima had asked
for 14 days to complete the probe when Muthugia appeared before Kiambu
principal magistrate Justus Kituku on Tuesday.

suspect's lawyer, Stephen Kibunja, said the "sensational story"
published by The Star elicited public interest and was prejudicial.
The Standard had earlier reported tha the suspect was beaten by a mob before he was arrested and
needed medical attention as he sustained head and ear injuries.
magistrate said it was too early to determine if what was published by
the newspaper was true since the suspect had not been formally charged.
"The counsel can raise the issue through appropriate channels," Kituku said and ordered police to take the suspect to a doctor.
