'My source let me down', Alai says on DP Ruto claims

20 May 2016, 16:03

Nairobi - A Kenyan blogger is facing possible arrest after he claimed that the country's Deputy President had collapsed and been rushed to hospital.

Police sources told News24 that they are planning to arrest well known blogger Robert Alai for stating on his Twitter handle that Kenyan Deputy President William Ruto had collapsed and been rushed to hospital.

The blogger made the claims Thursday morning, saying that the Deputy President had collapsed and been rushed to the high end Nairobi Hospital for treatment Wednesday evening.

CONFIRMED: DP Ruto collapsed at his Karen home last evening. He was rushed to Nairobi hospital. Waiting for more updates.

The Deputy President though did travel to Kenya's North Eastern Province where he is currently on a three day tour with President Uhuru Kenyatta and looked to be in good health and now Police are said to be looking at whether to charge Alai.

" The matter caused alot of tension and anxiety among members of the public. It was untrue and misuse of a social media account and action will be taken," the police source told News24.

In what seemed like a retraction later though, Nairobi News reported that the blogger seemed to allude to the fact that maybe he had been let down by his sources.

The controversial blogger is not new to cases of alleged social media misuse and has been arrested and charged as a result.

The Standard reported earlier this year that Alai had been ordered to appear before Police to explain some social media postings that amounted to hate speech.
