Mutua ridicules Kalonzo for expelling MPs

11 February 2016, 21:14

Nairobi - Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has termed the de-whipping of Wiper leaders an "intolerant, undemocratic and smacking of the dark Kanu era".

The Star reported Mutua's arguments after the party expelled Regina Ndambuki (Kilome), John Munuve (Mwingi North) and Joe Mutambo (Mwingi Central) from various House committees on Tuesday.

Governor Mutua "strongly condemned" the party following the move and accused it of curtailing freedom of speech, association and democracy.

"They are being punished because they have associated themselves with politics of development and not politics of poverty," said the Governor of the Maendeleo Chap Chap fame.

"They are supporters of the Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement that seeks to transform what has been empty talk, and promises of real change and development."

He added via Twitter on Thursday that the message the party clearly sent was that anyone who tries to make changes for the purpose of development will be punished.

According to the Daily Nation, three Wiper MPs have been kicked out of Parliamentary Committees.

John Munuve (Mwingi North) could become the first MP to lose his seat after the party expelled him over remarks he made in the House.

Others removed were Ms Regina Ndambuki (Kilome) and Mr Joe Mutambu (Mwingi Central).

Noting it is time for change centred on the common man, Mutua urged youths "tired of being played by archaic systems" to condemn this

"The time for change that focuses on mwananchi is now and it is unstoppable," he underlined.

The changes by Wiper, whose leader is Kalonzo Musyoka, came a day after Cord kicked out Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani from the National Assembly's House Business Committee.
