Mombasa Commissioner bans night weddings

Mombasa – People wishing to get hitched in the evening will have to face
the light as authorities banned night weddings due to crime.
According to the BBC the ban comes after recent crimes being committed
by knife-wielding gangs.
County Commissioner, Maalim
Mohamed said that because weddings could on for up to five days and late into
the night, families who wish to celebrate later than 22h00 should pay a fee and
get police clearance.

Just three days ago there
were more than three weddings held with over 20 criminal running rampant.
However the Daily Nation
reports that Commission for Human Rights and Justice Executive Director, Julius
Ogogoh said that this move is ‘archaic’ and against some cultures.
For example Swahili people
are known to celebrate in the evenings.
