Meru woman flees after burning teenage daughter with hot machete

Meru - Police in Meru are searching for a woman who burned her 13-year-old daughter and left her tied up in the house.
It is alleged that the woman used a hot machete to burn the girl’s thighs, hands and face before fleeing.
The woman is said to have subjected her to the heinous act as punishment for undergoing a religious rite of passage in December.
She tied her daughter with ropes, burned her, locked her up then fled.

The girl had however obtained permission from her mother to undergo the training, which also sensitized the girls against FGM which is rampant in the region.
She is nursing wounds at Meru Referral and Teaching Hospital, Standard reports.
