Mombasa - Kenya Defense Forces officers on Wednesday shot dead a mentally challenged man for throwing stones at a Navy van.
26-year-old mentally challenged man was killed at Dona Primary school near Kenya Navy base in Mtongwe.
The van was allegedly ferrying students to school when the incident occurred.

According to The Star, the stones Ndoro Mwembe threw broke the window and landed on the students, leaving six of them with injuries.
Likoni police boss said three police officers who were in the van tried to chase Mwembe but one of them shot him inside a classroom.
Human rights groups and Kenyans have however condemned the shooting, saying the officers should have arrested the man instead of shooting.
Steve Gitukia posted on twitter: “The KDF guy could equally be mentally challenged.”
Another twitter user, Peter Oduor, questioned: “A man throws a stone at you, you shoot him... what kind of sense is that?”
However, other Kenyans have stood with KDF saying they did the right thing as security has been of concern at the coast.
One said: “Security has been a big problem, he was mad after naval van or there was no other vehicles!? counter terrorism, how can u chase armed soldiers?” while yet another said it is hard to differentiate between a moving stone and a grenade.
