Cases of domestic violence in the country have been on the increase.

The most recent case was reported in Murang'a where a woman set his husband on fire before taking poison.

Statistics indicate that 45% of women between ages 15 – 49 in Kenya have experienced either physical or sexual violence, accounting for 90% of the gender based violence (GBV) cases reported.

Culture, financial insecurity and drugs have been cited as the factors that promote violence against women.
