Nairobi - A man captured in a video battering his pregnant wife has been charged in a Nairobi court with assault.
Capital News reported that John Wambugu Muchiri who was captured in a video that went
viral on social media has been charged in a Nairobi Court with
assaulting his 22 year-old wife.
Muchiri was charged with causing grievous harm to Juster Kawira on February 1, at their house in Langata.
In the video, Kawira who was four months pregnant was seen being dragged inside a house only to come out later covered in blood.

after the prosecution told the court that he is a flight risk who can
easily injure the complainant.

The Star had earlier reported that the two have had a number of altercations previously and that the latest one was not something new.
"He has stabbed me before and I suffered a miscarriage as a result," she said.
"My parents know about my violent marriage but it's only my mother who tried to intervene. My father always says he will speak to him. I am not going back there again."
Kawira’s case attracted attention after social media users circulated the video.
She recalled a previous incident in January 2014, when he allegedly stabbed her in the stomach killing their unborn child.
