Kuria bond raised to KES 10 million

09 February 2016, 12:45

Nairobi - Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on Tuesday suffered a blow as High Court judge Luka Kimaru enhanced the lawmaker’s bond terms in a hate speech and incitement case.

Capital News reports that the judge ordered that Kuria deposits a bond of KES 10 million up from an earlier KES 5 million or a cash bail of KES 3 million up from KES 1 million.

The Gatundu South legislator was ordered to comply within seven days from Tuesday.

In reading the judgement, the judge said politicians must learn that their utterances bear consequences.

The judge, in a report on the Daily Nation, says that Kuria has demonstrated that he has no regard for the law.

“’The reasons for enhancing the bond terms is because from the record of the Chief Magistrate’s court, he had been warned not to utter the same words, but the prosecution has demonstrated that he has continued to do so,” the judge said on Tuesday.

This follows an application filed by the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko demanding the cancellation of the MPs bond terms for continued hate speech.
