Kenyan television producer sued over 500 “abusive” text messages she sent to ex-lover’s wife

24 February 2016, 11:49

Nairobi - A television producer based in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, has been sued for sending over 500 “abusive” text messages to her ex-lover’s wife.

Sheila Mulinya is accused of sending abusive messages to Constable Brenda Mukolwe and Inspector James Makomere, her husband between April and May 2015.

Mulinya claims that she was married to Makomere in a customary wedding, though she refused to be cross-examined over the matter.

In her text messages to the Administration Police officers, Standard reports that the TV producer accused the couple of loose morals and mental instability.

Sending abusive messages to another person in Kenya amounts to hate speech or misuse of telecommunications device and is punishable by law.
