Kenya Deploys Special Forces in Terror-Suspect Stand-Off

15 July 2016, 18:52

Nairobi - Kenyan police have sent an elite hostage rescue team to Kapenguria, 341 kilometers (212 miles) north of the capital, Nairobi, after a terror suspect in custody at a police station held prisoners hostage as he attempted to escape.

“His attempts to escape were thwarted by the quick arrival of other officers” who surrounded the police station, the Kenya Police Service said Thursday in a statement on Twitter.

The suspect grabbed one of the policemen’s firearms and shot several security personnel at the station. “The number and nature of casualties is yet to be fully established,” according to the statement.
