Interior ministry sets up Whatsapp number for public communication

25 January 2016, 22:25

Nairobi - The Interior ministry has set up WhatsApp accounts for Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery and Permanent Secretary Karanja Kibicho.

The ministry said on Monday that the numbers 0719777719  for Nkaissery and 0780 719750  for Kibicho were strictly for WhatsApp and SMS messages.

According to The Star, the launch is aimed at enabling the public to easier reach the security officials with, for example, inquiries on their roles and information on security.

The launch is in the wake of the attack on Kenya Defence Forces soldiers in El Adde, Somalia, and an intensified war on terror.

" These numbers will help ease communication between the leadership of the Ministry and the key functions they deliver to Kenyans," a statement said.

The Standard further reported that the two officials are also available on Twitter and Instagram, via @GenNkaissery and @kibichokaranja, and on Facebook.

The ministry has also launched its website (interior.go.ke) that officials say will be used for interaction.

This is seen as part of efforts to address the issues, which are proving hard for the ministry. Corruption has been cited to be rampant in the ministry, which is under the Office of the President.

The ministry has previously been clouded in corruption allegations thus the new numbers will it is hoped reduce the trail.
