Infant dumped in pit latrine in Nairobi

Nairobi - An infant boy was found in a paper bag by a passer
walking by on Monday morning near Kianda School, Waiyaki Way.
According to the Standard Media the authorities are still
trying to establish how long the infant had been abandoned and the reasons why.

Terry Nzau recalled to the police that he rushed back to his
home to get warm clothes to cover the infant.
The infant has since been taken to hospital for observation.
In 2012 the Daily Nation reported on a scandal where
parent abandon their new born children only to reclaim them once they have been
educated and empowered in children's homes.
Emily Msegeti, a children’s welfare officer, said there was
spike in the number of abandoned children aged between two and eight, as well
as those with special needs.
