High school dropout taught at University for two years

19 February 2016, 09:54

Nairobi - A high school dropout told a court in Nakuru County that he taught at Maasai Mara University for two years before his contract was irregularly terminated.

David Bungei also revealed that he recruited students and supervised lecturers during his tenure.

Standard reports that Bungei sat his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam in 1996 and scored a C, after which he operated a butchery for 13 years to fend for his family.

In 2009, he was employed by the University as a tractor driver but rose to the ranks of grounds attendant and later a lecturer.

He taught Diploma, Degree and Masters students before the University decided to irregularly terminate his contract.

His recruitment, however, contravenes the guidelines of the Commission for Higher Education (CUE) which require all University lecturers to be holders of PhD.
