10 February 2016, 14:13

Nairobi - Former NYS boss Nelson Githinji has been charged in a new corruption case in which he is accused of using KES 497,355 public funds to service his private vehicle.

The Daily Nation says that the Prosecution claimed that on June 4, 2014 at NYS Headquarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi, he used public funds to service and repair his personal car registration number KBS 475S.

Mr Githinji was charged alongside his former personal assistant Mr Nicholas Juma Makhokha and Mr Geoffrey Kimani Kiriha, a senior superintendent mechanic at NYS.

They denied charges of abuse of office, conspiracy to defraud and fraudulent acquisition of public property.

They are accused of jointly conspiring to defraud NYS by facilitating the servicing and repair of the former Director General’s car by pretending that the cost was incurred for the repair of a government vehicle registration number GK 188S.

The Star added that Mr Githinji and the co-accused were each released on a bond of KES 1 million and cash bail of KES 200, 000.

Githinji is facing a separate corruption case over theft of KES 791 million at NYS.
