Ex-cop arrested while attempting to sneak bomb-making material into Police College

Nairobi - A former policeman was among two men arrested while attempting to sneak suspicious materials into the General Service Unit (GSU) training college in Embakasi, Nairobi during the Tuesday pass out parade of 1,976 officers.

They were arrested by the Anti-terror Police Unit (ATPU) at the main gate of the college after they were found with gadget said to be capable of making an explosive material, shortly after the President’s arrival.
Following the threat, Daily Nation reports that an alert was issued barring entry of any unauthorized vehicles and pedestrians into the venue.

Families of the graduating officers alongside the country’s top security officials and cabinet secretaries were present at the event which was presided over by the President.
However, Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet has said that the two are not terrorists and that the gadgets they were carrying were harmless.
It has been established that the materials they were carrying were actually a motherboard and transistor radio that were on their way to a technician for repair, Standard reports.
Boinett has said the two will be freed soon.
