Dormitory set ablaze as students bar fire engine from compound

Kisii - A dormitory at a Secondary School in Kisii County Kenya was reduced to ashes as students barred fire extinguishers from entering the compound.
The fire is said to have started around 8PM on Thursday, but firefighters could not put it off due to the hostility of students.
They had to seek reinforcement from police in order to gain access the institution and contain the fire which had already razed half of the dormitory.
According to Standard, three schools have been razed in the County within a period of one week.
Fires in public boarding schools have increased, with reports indicating that over 70 schools have been affected.
Stakeholders in the education sector have blamed changes to the school calendar and the elimination of prayer and visiting days during third term for the fires.
The most affected counties are Kisii, Meru, Machakos, Kericho, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Uasin Gishu, Nyamira, Siaya, Kitui, Nakuru, Migori, Muranga, Kiambu, Kilifi and Bungoma.
