Court orders polyandrous woman to return dowry

15 January 2016, 10:23

Mombasa - A polyandrous woman who had gone to court seeking divorce from her first husband has been ordered to return the furniture worth KES 40 000 she received as dowry from him.

The woman claimed that the husband did not show her love, was granted divorce but the man promised to appeal the Kadhi court ruling saying he still loved her.

According to Islamic law, a woman can initiate divorce on grounds of hatred for her husband or any other dissatisfaction with the marriage, regardless of whether he still loves her.
