CORD state school arson attacks should be declared national disaster

Nairobi – Opposition
party, Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) have stated that the recent burst
of arson in schools should be declared a natural disaster and has called for
the immediate closure of schools.
According to The Star
CORD leader met on Thursday to discuss the matter who expressed concern over
the escalating matter and impending risk on people’s lives.
More than 20 lawmakers
called for a public investigation into the cause of the arson attacks.
This decision was made
after Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) called for a boycott
if schools are not closed in a week.

Kenya National Union
of Teachers (Knut) Secretary General, Wilson Sossion the arson attacks are due
to radical reforms introduced by CS Matiang'i and a board formed to probe
rampant cases of exam cheating.
Fifteen students from
Rongai Boys High School in Rongai spent the weekend in police cell after their
attempt to burn the school dormitory was thwarted by residents.
The students were attempting
to burn the dormitory for the second time in a span of two months but quick
action from residents and other students contained the fire.
