Nakuru - A police lorry that was ferrying ammunition from Eldoret town to the armoury headquarters in Nairobi overturned at the Kibunja-Salgaa blackspot in Nakuru County after developing braking problems on Thursday.
News of the accident spread fast in the neighbourhood, prompting residents to flock the scene with some threatening to loot the overturned lorry.
It took the combined effort of administration police officers from Rongai Police office and General Service Unit (GSU) officers from the nearby Jolly camp who used batons, sticks and whips to dispel the crowd and prevent mayhem.
The driver of the lorry sustained slight injuries, Daily Nation reports, but was treated and discharged.
Salgaa has been declared an accident blackspot by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
Last month, seven people died after a fuel tanker rammed into a Nissan matatu a few meters from the blackspot.
Standard cites that freewheeling, speeding and lack of road signs are the major causes of accidents in the area.
