Businessman collapses, dies atop Mt Longonot as hiking turns tragic

Naivasha - A Nairobi-based businessman died on top of Mt Longonot in Naivasha after a hiking expedition turned tragic.

The man, who reportedly developed breathing complications while at the rim of the crater, died while waiting for help from KWS rangers.

The Star reports that KWS took over four hours to respond to the emergency, citing the complex process of obtaining a chopper from Nairobi.

Mt Longonot is one of the major attractions in Rift Valley, whose unique feature include the thick forest that lies within the crater of the mountain.

According to KWS, the crater rim provides great scenic views across the Rift Valley all the way to Lake Naivasha.

Other attractions at the volcanic mountain include buffaloes, elands, lions, leopards, bushbucks, common zebras, giraffes and Grant’s gazelles.
