16 February 2012, 06:53
Nairobi – A study by the Kenya Human Rights Commission
has revealed that women in the cutflower sector continue to suffer
numerous human rights violations despite the presence of laws
safeguarding their rights.
Kenya Human Rights Commission Executive Director Atsango Chesoni said
that the women labour rights report assessed six themes namely equal
pay for equal work, maternity and paternity leave, child support, Sexual
harassment, dismissal and casual labour.
She said the study showed that the women workers did not have job
security, were not aware of their rights and they continued to suffer
sexual harassment in workplaces in the horticultural supply chains.
