Prince William has been 'saddened' to learn of the death of a retired army officer who ran a game reserve in Kenya where he proposed to Kate Middleton.
Daily Beast reports that Lieutenant Colonel David Parkinson, 58, was killed after a gang of five robbers, armed with machetes and a gun, raided his ranch in Nyanyuki. The robbers also stole a laptop, phone, some ornaments, bottles of wine and £2.
A statement from the Prince's office said that William had spent his gap year at Lewa Conservancy, where Parkinson had been manager, helping with various conservation projects before taking up his place at St Andrews University.
