Westgate attack mastermind, most wanted terrorist

06 November 2013, 09:04

Nairobi - Mohamed Abdikadir Mohamed, the man suspected to be the mastermind of the Westgate terror attack in Nairobi, has been put on the list of world’s most wanted terrorist.

Mohamed, an Al Shabaab operative born in Mombasa, speaks five languages and is the organizer of terror operations in Kenya, Yemen, Somalia and the West.

According to US officials, the US Navy Seal Team Six was targeting him in a raid in that was carried out on October 5 in Baraawe, but he managed to escape, The Standard reports.

Kenya intelligence officials who have been trailing him say his footprints are all over the Westgate Mall attack that left at least 67 people dead and scores of others injured.

Four men suspected to be behind the Sept. 21 terror attack were arraigned in court on Monday and denied seven charges related to terrorism.

The four Somali nationals faced a total of seven counts when they appeared before the acting chief magistrate, Dolphin Okundi, in Nairobi where they were later remanded for a week.

The suspects are Mohammed Ahmed Abdi, Liban Abdullah Omar, Alias Ibrahim alias Adan Dheqand Hussein Hassan Mustafah.

The court was forced to get a Somali translator as the suspected insisted that they could not understand English or Swahili.

The prosecution accuses the four suspects of carrying out a terror act and committing the offences jointly with others who were not in court.
