Wanjala, Akinyi released after drug trafficking probe

14 November 2013, 08:14

Nairobi - Former Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala, his lover Joyce Akinyi and three other people were last evening released from Muthaiga Police Station where they had been detained over drug trafficking claims.

They were arrested at a roadblock along Nairobi-Namanga highway on Tuesday night carrying two bags of a white powder, which police suspected to be narcotics, Daily Nation reports.

However, Wanjala through his lawyer claims to have anticipated a shortage of maize in the country and had gone to Tanzania to pick the maize flour sample which he wanted to transport to Kenya.

Akinyi was also taken to a hospital for tests to determine whether she had swallowed some drugs and their lawyer says the tests were negative.
