VIP security strains police force

Nairobi - The rising demand for VIP protection is overwhelming the National Police Service (NPS) and may undermine enforcement of law and order.
According to The Standard, the number of leaders soared with the devolved system of government with about 4,000 police officers estimated to be guarding the prominent personalities and their homes.
Some influential officials have demanded as much as five times the number of officers they are entitled to in a country with about 40,000 police officers watching over a population of some 40 million Kenyans, which means the public - policing ratio is 1:1000.
