Washington - The United States commemorated the 16th anniversary of the terror attacks that claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians in Kenya and Tanzania.
The attacks, which John Kerry, Secretary of State, described as cowardly, injured thousands others after terrorists launched them on the US Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
"We commemorate those who were killed that day, honor the lives they lived, and extend our condolences to the loved ones they left behind," Kerry said.
"Today’s anniversary is a somber reminder of the continued terrorist threat that we face on the African continent and around the world, and an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to partner with our allies to confront it."
He said at the just-ended U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, his country and leaders from across Africa confirmed their shared commitment to the continent’s security and recommitted our resolve to address threats—in East Africa and more broadly—so that the country and its partners could enjoy peace and security.
