UN Security Council unlikely to defer Uhuru’s ICC trial

Nairobi - The UN Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, is not taking lightly African Union’s stance on Uhuru’s trials at The Hague.
On Wednesday, Ban said that AU must engage with the ICC ‘in a constructive manner’.
The United Nations Spokesman, Martin Nesirky, has urged countries signed to the Rome Statute to continue honouring their mandate.
The UN Security Council is yet to review AU’s proposal regarding Uhuru Kenyatta’s trial, Daily Nation reports, but can only agree to defer the trials by not more than a year on basis of perceived threats. AU wanted Uhuru’s trial deferred until his term as a president expires.
