New York - The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will meet on Thursday to discuss the deferral of UhuRuto’s trials at the ICC.
In the meeting that is expected to take place in New York, the members of the UN Security Council and African Union will discuss an application made in October seeking to have the cases facing the President and his Deputy deferred till their term is over. The Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Amina Mohamed, will also be present in the discussion. According to Daily Nation, the UNSC will review AU's application next week.
The cases facing the two Kenyan principals at The Hague can only be deferred if nine out of the twelve members of the UNSC support the resolution. In addition, all permanent members holding VETO powers - Britain, China, France and Russia – have to vote in favour of the deferral.
