UK backs Uhuru, Ruto video link trial

Nairobi - The UK has backed changes to the International Criminal Court rules to allow President Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto’s trials be conducted via a video link and excuse them from being personally in the courtroom during trial sessions.
Previously, the ICC had turned down President Kenyatta and Ruto’s requests to be allowed to attend their trials via video links, Daily Nation reports.
They had submitted the requests saying that they had other national duties to fulfil after they were voted into office during the March 4 polls.
Last week Friday, the UN Security Council rejected the African Union’s bid to have the cases deferred for one year.
President Kenyatta’s trial was pushed from November to February next year.
