Two suspected poachers killed in Laikipia

Laikipia - Two suspected poachers were gunned down by police reservists from Ol Pejeta wildlife conservancy in Laikipia County.
According to Angelus Karuru , the county’s, police boss they recovered an AK 47 rifle, four bullets and a motorcycle from the suspects on Wednesday morning, Daily Nation reports.
He said the suspects could not be identified since they did not have any identification documents.
Poaching has been on the rise in the country. Last week a middle aged suspected poacher was killed by KWS rangers at the expansive Solio Ranch.
Two others escaped with gunshot wounds after the rangers ambushed them while heading for a poaching mission at the ranch which is situated at the boarder of Nyeri and Laikipia counties.
Attorney general, Professor Githu Muigai said that the government will train and involve local communities in the fight against Environmental crime and reassured Kenyans of the government’s commitment towards combating poaching and wildlife conservation.
Speaking at a past event at UNEP headquarters in Nairobi where UNEP was announcing its partnership with INTERPOL to fight environmental crime, Prof. Muigai said that a paramilitary anti-poaching unit had been set up to end the poaching menace.
