Twin blasts reported in Nairobi's Gikomba area

16 May 2014, 15:02

Nairobi - Twin blasts have taken place in Nairobi's Gikomba area, with a number of injuries reported, Friday.

According to the Kenya Red Cross and Kenya Disaster Operations unit, the blasts have occured at the sprawling market just outside the central business district, at the moment, believed to be caused by hand grenades.

Witnesses on the scene have described the area as chaotic, with other unconfirmed reports saying there are supposed casualties.

The attack comes just a few days after a huge fire engulfed the market, which is famous for its second hand clothing and foodstuff.

And with western governments warning their citizens of the dangers of travelling to the country due to the state of the country's security, the attacks will add pressure to the government to deal with the current situation.

Just a few minutes after the attacks, a tweet from the Presidential communications unit pledged to continue with the war on terror.

" We will continue to do everything in our power to fight Terror, it read.
