Treasury sets date for reading 2014/15 budget

Nairobi - The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Treasury, Kariuki Thige, has announced that the budget for the financial year 2014/2015 will be read next month.
The key event is scheduled for June 12.
Thige made the announcement in a statement sent to newsrooms and meant as a notice to the public.
“This is to notify the public that the budget statement for the fiscal year 2014/15 will be delivered by the Cabinet Secretary, National Treasury, to the National Assembly on Thursday, the 12th June, 2014 at 3.00 pm,” read the Permanent Secretary’s statement.
The budget day comes at a time when the Anglo Leasing payment debate is at the centre of public debate with opposition blaming the Attorney General, Prof Githu Muigai, for accenting to it.
The National Treasury had earlier this month presented a Sh 1 trillion budget estimate in the National Assembly for the 2014-15 financial year with security and payment of teachers being the largest consumers.
The Treasury had said that it had plans to increase state revenue by 22 percent in the next fiscal year and raise spending in agriculture, roads, ports and energy supply to expand the economy.
The 2014/15 budget comes in the wake of the Wage Bill debate which sought to reduce wages of public servants in order to contain recurrent expenditure.
