Nairobi - Five companies will get night travel licences in the coming days with several others on the road to, transport secretary Michael Kamau has said.
The names of the five that have fulfilled the threshold required to receive a license were not yet available but sources indicated that Easy Coach LTD and Crown Bus Services LTD as well as Mash Bus Services were on the list.
Several other companies have also been earmarked for the licences which will finally break the long standing deadlock on the matter.
" There are a number which have fulfilled the regulations required of them by the National Transport Authority, Kamau said.
" They will get night travel licences soon, he added.
And despite the industry and Kenyans suffering over an extended period of time due to the lack of night travel, Kamau insisted that it was all for the good of the nation.
" We have determined and you can ask the relevant people, that the country has suffered far fewer road accidents since the ban was introduced.
" What is important at the end of the day is that when we get back to night travel, it is as safe as can be for Kenyans to travel. That is what we all want, he added.
