Nairobi – The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) will now have a wide range of powers to clamp down on vote rigging and corruption, with the enactment of new law.
For instance, the IEBC will now have the mandate to order the arrest and prosecution of Cabinet ministers, their assistants and other government officials who use their official vehicles to campaign.
Speaking to Daily Nation on Sunday, Justice minister Mutula Kilonzo said that the new law took effect on Friday after he gave a final nod to the Elections Act.
