Garissa - Police said Saturday they were interrogating three key terror suspects who were arrested in a joint security operation in the clash-hit Garissa county in northeastern region.
Regional Commissioner Mohamud Saleh told journalists in Garissa that the three high profile Al-Shabaab suspects were arrested during a security operation in Yumbis where a police officer was killed after an ambush by Al-Shabaab on May 26.
"The security officers also recovered three firearms and 29 rounds of ammunition in the operation that is undergoing at Yumbis, " Saleh said.
He said they received intelligence from members of the public about the presence of the three key terror suspects in the Yumbi village and swung into action immediately. He vowed to enhance operation to flush out Al-Shabaab fighters in the region which is near the border with Somalia to help restore security.
Saleh, who is spearheading the security operation in Yumbis, said some of the suspects escaped to Dadaab refugee camp and Somalia, adding that police officers are searching for those who managed to escape.
Security agencies have intensified border patrols to deter infiltration of the Al-Shabaab militants into the country at a time of increased threats by the terrorists' network and homegrown terror cells.
