Terrorism cases to be handled in favour of public

14 July 2014, 17:58

Nanyuki - Judges have been urged when dealing with terrorism cases that they act in the interest of the public so that there can be a balance between the justice and security, Daily Nation report.

Chief Justice Willy Matunga, held a meeting with judges as an intervention because they often grant bail to terrorists. He feels that national security is being compromised by this act.

Terror suspects often abuse their bail rights by helping stage attacks in the country says Deputy President, William Ruto.

At the inauguration of the National Council on the Administration of Justice Chief Justice, Willy Matunga stated that public rights should come first before security rights.

In the mean time he suggested that security agencies work together with the judiciary to combat terrorism cases.
