Teachers above 60 years still on TSC payroll

Nairobi - Investigations have revealed that teachers who have attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 years are still on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) payroll.
The government had issued an order banning the hiring of retirees but the investigations reveal that the teachers are being offered contracts to continue serving in order to complete the projects they started during their tenure, Daily Nation reports.
The chairperson of the Public Service Commission, Prof Margaret Kobia, said TSC had teachers above 60 years on its payroll, in reference to those who were awarded the contracts before the government issued a ban on such extensions in February.
On Friday, Education Cabinet Secretary Jacob Kaimenyi said he was not aware of such reports and if they are true then they would be in contravention of the regulations.
