Mandera - Three people were critically injured when unknown people hurled a grenade at a food kiosk in Mandera on Thursday evening.
Mandera County police commander Job Boronjo said the three were rushed to hospital in critical condition after the attack, believed to have been carried out by suspected Al Shabaab militants, Daily Nation reported.
He said they have launched a manhunt for the suspects behind the attack together with other suspected Al Shabaab militants who are said to have sneaked into the country from Somalia to carry out terror attacks.
64 people, most of them teachers, were killed in attacks by suspected Al Shabaab militants in Mandera in December last year, forcing workers’ unions to warn thousands of workers to leave the region.
Most teachers requested to be transferred from the region, but their requests were turned down by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), which maintained that they should go back of be sacked.
TSC has so far advertised the posts of the teachers who failed to report back to work in the region.
