Students sleep in the cold as school bus is trapped in flood water

13 May 2015, 10:32 Pauline Nyumu

Nairobi - 11 students of Makini and St. Hanna Schools spent the night in the cold after being trapped in flood water at Nairobi West for 10 hours.

The Kenya Red Cross Society rescue team arrived at the scene around 4.30am Wednesday, and took the students to The Boma hotel where they were served with breakfast before their parents could pick them up.

“All students picked by parents,” Kenya Red Cross confirmed in a Twitter update.

The students were among hundreds of others affected by the flood that was caused by an outburst of Ngong River.

Residents of Mukuru Kayaba were also forced to evacuate their homes due to the flooding.

In a Twitter update, Kenya Red Cross said: “Reported in Mukuru Kayaba, residents moved to higher ground towards Hazina Estate after Ngong River burst its banks.”
