Students cancel planned demo over delayed HELB money

Nairobi - University students have cancelled a planned protest over delayed disbursement of Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) money.
According to the Students Organization of Nairobi University chairman Babu Owino, they took the move following a confirmation from HELB officials that the money will be released by Tuesday, The Standard reported.

The students had planned to block all major roads in Nairobi on Monday to protest over the delayed release of the money.
HELB records show that 110,000 students applied for the loans but only 70,000 will benefit from the KES 2.5 billion loans from the institution.
