28 April 2014, 08:17

Nairobi - The Speaker of Somalia Parliament Mohamed Osman Jawari said he was angered by the arrest of a top diplomat at the country’s embassy in Nairobi.

Siyad Mohamud Shire, the consular general of the Somali Embassy in Kenya was among the people who were arrested by the police in a security operation that was carried out in Nairobi’s Lavington area, The Standard reports.

Jawari said Shire showed the police his identity as a diplomat by the police went ahead and arrested him.

According to Jawari, the security officer’s attitude towards the diplomat cannot be ignored because they violated all the international conventions.

He said they would write a complaint letter to the Kenyan government to ask why the officers arrested Jawari, who was later released after being interrogated for several hours.
