Sh1.1bn grant to revamp Nairobi’s fire services

Nairobi - The fire department in Nairobi County has received a much-needed monetary injection from the Belgian government,Capital FM reports.
The grant is reportedly close to Sh1.13 billion, which will assist the department in purchasing vehicles and equipment to aid the firefighters. The Nairobi county fire department was under the spotlight by the worlds media in August when a fire broke out at Jomo Kenyatta international airport.
It was reported in the media that Nairobi county did not have a single working fire engine and the county had not paid a repair bill from 2009. The fire battled on for more than four hours ,and flames could still be seen despite the fire brigade seemingly having the blaze under control.
Governor Evans Kidero, who was present at the ceremoney said the money donated by Belgium would be allocated to train emergency workers as well.
