Nairobi - Chairperson of the Dialogue Committee, Agnes Sila, welcomed the East African Community Secretary Generals’ (SGs) Annual Forum for Private Sector, Civil Society and other interest groups as key in deepening regional integration.
Sila, an executive of Kenya’s Ministry of East African Community (EAC) Affairs, Commerce and Tourism said this following the confirmation the next such event will be held in Entebbe, Uganda later this year.
It would be held on September 12-13.
The decision was arrived at after a three-day preparatory meeting of members of the Regional Dialogue Committee drawn from the Partner States’ Ministries responsible for EAC Affairs, EAC Secretariat, Private Sector, Civil Society Organisations, and other interest groups held in Mwanza, Tanzania over the weekend.
The committee arrived at the theme, “EAC: My Home, My Business”, as a working theme for the Entebbe forum.
The decision on the venue and theme of the forum comes after the survey that pointed out the pitfalls that member countries had towards a common market. The scorecard which measures the partner states’ compliance to the free movement of capital, services and goods had been developed by the World Bank Group at the request of the EAC Secretariat.
“The Forum ensures direct dialogue with the EAC Chief Executive in vigorously pursuing our regional agenda,” Sila told the experts from the Partner States.
She added that many important issues were raised during the last forum and there was need to take steps to move to next level.
The Entebbe forum would be the third such edition.
