The Hague - William Ruto’s ICC defence counsel, Shyamala Alagendra, Wednesday accused people allied to the former President Mwai Kibaki of plotting to fix Ruto by linking him to the 2007/08 post election violence.
According to Shyamala, Daily Nation reports, senior officials in the Kibaki’s administration organised a witness protection scheme to woo witnesses so they could testify against the Deputy President.
Some of those involved in the scheme included the former Gichugu MP, Martha Karua, and former President’s political affairs director, Nancy Gitau. Others involved in the plot are still serving in the current government, Shyamala revealed, including lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo who is a member of the Commission for the Implementation of the Constitution (CIC).
