Rogue KDF soldiers cause terror in Kenya: Report

30 June 2014, 11:25

Nairobi - A group of rogue KDF soldiers, trained to fight at the front-line in Somalia are the ones to blame for the increased cases of terror and insecurity, it has been revealed in a report on the Daily Nation.

The soldiers, trained by the government in 2009 to work alongside the Somali army in efforts to defeat the Al- Shabaab menace in Somalia are understood to have changed sides, and taken arms for money to reign terror on Kenyans.

It is understood that they are the ones to blame for the recent clashes in Wajir which have left over 20 people dead and other attacks all over the country in Nairobi, Mombasa and in other parts of the coast.

According to the report, the government, under pressure to stop the effects of the Somali lawlessness spilling into the country created a force to create a secure zone on the eastern side of Kenya's border with Somalia in the Jubaland territory but the process was then hit by corruption and nepotism.

Instead of recruiting and training Somali nationals to fight the war, the people involved instead recruited Kenyans of Somali origin, who for various reasons have now returned to Kenya and re-integrated into the society and are now hired killers.

The government was apparently warned by the then US ambassador to Kenya Mr Michael Ranneberger who sought to have the process re-done but to no avail. Even worse was that the soldiers were not placed under any commanding unit in the country, as they were assigned to the Somali government which has been an issue since.

And according to various sources, the rogue soldiers who are unaccounted for are the ones causing havoc in the country, killing and maiming innocent Kenyans.
