Nairobi - Religious leaders met with former UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan and they cautioned him that the escalating poverty and high food prices could be the cause of the next conflict in Kenya.
According to the Daily Nation, the leaders met with the Chief Mediator at the Serena Hotel in Nairobi, on Wednesday and expressed their concern over the rising cost of living which is pushing poverty levels in Kenya.
In a statement to journalists, Peter Karanja, the National Council of Churches of Kenya(NCCK) secretary general said that people could only be pushed so far and urged the government to intervene as poverty and idle youth are precipitate ingredients for violence as was witnessed in 2007.
